“If we live in an economy with restricted resources and are looking for the greater bang for our buck, early childhood is the ticket we should purchase,” Said Professor Aisha Ray, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty in Erikson Institute.

This quote from Sandy reminds me of my passion, "We, as professionals in the Early Childhood field, have an opportunity to shape a child's life for a better result. That makes me passionate about this field."

A quot from one professional in the media segment during Week 2

Louise said, "...Preschool years are critical. They are the first, most foundamental period when children are in fact noticing who they are, and noticing the attitude to the stereotypes and discomfort or the positve messages about their skin color, their racial identity and so on.." I am inspired by her quote, "The passion to create a safer, most just world for all kids, and I'm supposed to be there until I die."

My person childhood web---about my sister

This is a photo of my sister, my brother-in-law and their daughter, my lovely and sweet niece, in her 4 years old birthday.
In my childhood, like a mom, my sister nurtured and cared about me after my mom passed away. She supported me physically and spiritually. I know it is hard for a teenage to have to take a role of a mom. I am so thankful and lucky to have her as my sister. The day when she married to my brother-in-law, I was so moved and happy for her that she found her happiness and now she has a 4 years old daughter. Sometimes, my niece, Wenwen would say to me, "Aunt, you are like my mom." I just treat my niece the way my sister treated me in my childhood.
Thank you, my sister!

My Personal Childhood Web——They make me shine!

Zhenxu, Guo (My Grandfather)
I was the only grandchild that was brought up by my grandparents until four years old, when it was time for me to go to the kindergarten. I feel special and loved. During vacations, my grandpa would take me to visit my relatives in different places. He would tell me stories about the places we went to, things we saw on the way, and people we met. I would never forget the scene that I sat next to my grandpa on the bus on the way to my aunt. I still could remember his gentle pat on my shoulders and his low-key voice telling a story. I think it is my grandpa that empowered me to take adventures, to discover things around me and fostered my interest in traveling. I like this saying, “ He that travels far knows much.”

Chanjuan Guo (My Mother)
In my memory, my mother, just like an ordinary woman in a conservative Chinese family, was strict with her children, but she definitely loved her children by showing her love in action instead of in words. In old days even nowadays in China, there exists gender inequality. However, my mother treated my sister and me the same way as my brother, which influences me so much on my pursuit of career. What influences me most is her patience and strong will. When I was in the Primary School, my mom was diagnosed as having a cancer. Since then, she fought against the illness. It was with my own eyes that I saw how strong my mom was and she always showed her patience and her smile to assure us.

Xiaocong Chen (My Sister)
My sister is 4 years older than me. However, she is like my mother, a great helper of my mom. She helped my mom to do some housework, to pick me up from school, to read me some books after she finished her homework, and to do something more than what a sister would do. My sister was so tolerant about my naughty moments and she would talk to me and fix my misbehaviour. She taught me how to care about others, how to take care of others who need helps, and how to make a choice when I was facing a crucial moment—just follow my heart. Thanks to my sister, always I will choose what my heart
tell me to do.

Yanling Zhong (My Friend)
Yanling was one of my best playmates when I was in the primary school. She is my good friend since then. We talked about things that happened in school, shared our news with each other, held the same interest in music, fiction books and cartoon movies. We supported each other when we met some difficulties. Yanling is an important part in my life, which made me childhood full of delight and comfort.

Zequan Liu (My English Teacher of Primary School)
Miss Liu is one of the teachers that I will always remember in my life. Because of her trust and care about me, she chose me as the English Class Representative, which offered me more chances to practice my English, to improve my leadership ability, and to communicate with my classmates. Thanks to Miss Liu’s rich experience abroad, She shared with us so many interesting stories and anecdotes happening around her home and abroad, which aroused my interest in learning English and my eager to know more around the world. She was knowledgeable and had her unique way of teaching so that I built up the foundation of my English. Moreover, she was so caring and in her spare time, she would talk with me, trying to help me reduce the pressure from school and home at the time when I faced the hard moment—knowing my mother was seriously sick. I am so grateful to have her support which made my primary school life easier.

I like this picture because from this drawing the child aged 3 showed her development of using her fine motor skills. She could hold a marker with thumb and two fingers and draw some recognizable objects--a person. Her vivid detailed drawing of the body parts also showed her cognitive development. And her story also made me touched. "Ms. Karol(my English name), I draw you a smiling face." I hope in the eyes of children, I am always smiling, caring and patient facing to the children.
One Quote of My Favorite:
"Hugs can do great amounts of good, especially for children.”----Princess Diana, Princess of Wales
Review: When you hug a child, you hug the world. With love, you will find problems between you and the child can be solved.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This is one of my favorite books written by Eric Carle. I am fascinated with the way how he made this book. With vivid pictures, it tells children how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. Children are so excited when it comes to this party:” Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out and…he was a beautiful butterfly!" Meanwhile, they learn the days of week and some common food.
