Practices that are worth remembering

The important role of family in promoting children's learning and development makes me pay more attention to the relevant resources. I think the practices from the article Code of ethics are worth remembering and it can guide us on the way of supporting children. Here below are the practices.

RESPONSIVE FAMILY CENTERED PRACTICES
Enhancement of Children’s and Families’ Quality of Lives
  1. We shall demonstrate our respect and concern for children, families, colleagues, and others with whom we work, honoring their beliefs, values, customs, languages, and culture.
  2. We shall recognize our responsibility to improve the developmental outcomes of children and to provide services and supports in a fair and equitable manner to all families and children.
  3. We shall recognize and respect the dignity, diversity, and autonomy of the families and children we serve.
  4. We shall advocate for equal access to high quality services and supports for all children and families to enhance their quality of lives.

Three ideals that are significant to me

Three ideals that are significant to me

Ethical Responsibilities to Children

Ideals
I-1.1—To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education and training.

The significance: One of my long-lasting professional goals is to stay informed. Staying informed will help me know more about what’s going on with young children in different parts of the world, what’s the updated news and the current issue about the children, and what we can do for the good of children and their families. Through continuing education and training, as what I am doing now, I will be self-improved and better prepared to support children’s development.

Ethical Responsibilities to Families

Ideals
I-2.8—To help family members enhance their understanding of their children and support the continuing development of their skills as parents.

The significance: Family members play a vital role in promoting children’s learning and development. In order to meet the needs of a whole child, we as professionals should collaborate with family members to ensure that teachers and parents are on the same page of improving children’s development. Therefore, it’s very important to help family members to have a better understanding of their children’s school life, of how they behave, and of what’s their strengths and what they need at school. Thus, teachers and parents can set up goals both at school and at home for children to develop physically, socially and emotionally, and cognitively.

Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues

Ideal
I-3A.2—To share resources with co-workers, collaborating to ensure that the best possible early childhood care and education program is provided.

The significance: As a new learner in the early childhood field, I would be very lucky and happy if my colleagues would share with me their ideas, thoughts, experience and resources of which I am really in need to scaffold my knowledge of early childhood care and education. I think it’s very important to share resources among coworkers for mutual positive change and mutual promotion. In this way, we can provide high-quallity service to children and their families.
